Customers say
Customers find the food has a good shelf life and is suitable for emergencies. They say it’s a solid meal replacement that keeps them alive. Many are satisfied with the dryness and quality. However, some customers have reported issues with the vacuum seal not being properly sealed. There are mixed opinions on the taste, value for money, and calorie content.

SOS Food Labs is a great company and you can rely on the quality of their products
First, relative to other similar emergency rations, this SOS product provides very good value and is higher in quality than other products I have used in the past. Although they are emergency type rations, the flavor is pretty good and some of the snack rations they sell are out right tasty. In addition, I recently had an issue where a ration shipped by Amzn arrived with a small hole in the package (likely from handling when being shipped). When I reached out to get it replaced, the shipper referred me back to SOS Foods. I called the number they provided and the folks at SOS answered the phone and graciously worked to send me an immediate replacement. In addition, they included samples of a couple of other products they offer. They went well above and beyond what was required and I cannot be happier with the quality of the company and the products they offer. I absolutely recommend them.

Great value for a survival ration
Compared to other long-term-storage items like MREs or dehydrated goods these definitely have their place. What you get is a brick of 9 individually-wrapped “cookies”. Each has 410 cals, 54g carbs (mostly sugar), 18g fat, 6g protein. Honestly I found the taste rather pleasant – you’re not eating beef stroganoff, but it’s basically a shortbread cookie, sweet, slightly apple flavored. If I have any complaint it’s secondary things. First, they aren’t very well rounded in terms of secondary nutrients like vitamins. There’s no vitamin C at all, just a small amount of calcium and iron. I’d really prefer a survival ration have vitamin C in it, so plan on adding some kind of vitamin supplement to your emergency kit. What’s weird is the ingredient list contains citric acid, but maybe it’s too little to be worth listing?Second, they’re actually very hard to open by hand. There’s a tear notch but the vacuum plastic is so thick it’s hard to tear across. I had to use a knife, so make sure to include a small blade in your kit as well. If you’re in survival mode and possibly weak from fatigue or stress, the last thing you want to have happen is be staring at your salvation and can’t get it open…

Frickin’ tasty dude,
In a basic sense, I like them, they’re tough tasty and will do the job in a pinch. And can only describe the texture as if you really compressed a graham cracker and i’m o k with that. Their individually wrapped keeps the seal fresh. These are on the tail end of 5 years and they’re still just as good as when I bought them. I like to supplement them with some kind of meat stick or something like that and and they keep me running hours no problem. Overall, highly recommend. Have water on hand as they are dry

Useful & Well packaged
These food bars are very well packaged and don’t crumble easily. Their are separate meal bars in a larger outer secure pack. The inner meal bars are easy to unwrap and eat even with one hand. And the outer packaging is simple enough to open without a knife or scissors. Each individual bar is satisfying and doesn’t taste too bad while giving a decent amount of energy. Instructions state three bars a day at 400 calories per bar. Each bar is sufficient for a meal although keep in mind each meal bar only has 6g of protein. These are for emergencies and will not sustain a person for long periods of time but certainly good for limited use and difficult situations for a few days. Great for taking backpacking or in the boat or even to leave in the trunk of your car for emergencies. I’ve tried others and this brand seems better than most for the price. They hold together well, don’t taste too bad and are filling while providing energy that is needed in emergency.

Okay taste, satisfy hunger for a few hours
First, let me preface this review by saying this product is not a culinary work of art designed to stimulate your senses. It is purely to save your life and give you much needed calories for energy in the simplest most convenient way. That being said, the taste is okay; I couldn’t taste any flavor of coconut or lemon like some bars, it’s actually just quite bland and has a taste and texture of shortbread. It’s really not bad at all in my opinion, certainly easy enough to eat when in need. It took me only about 2-3 minutes to eat one bar.As for keeping my hunger at bay, here’s my experience. I ate dinner last night around 6pm, snacked on some nuts around 8pm, went to bed around 10pm. I got up at 4:30am and didn’t eat a thing until around 9:45am, so I was hungry. I opened the pack and ate one bar, the hunger went away and I felt content, it wasn’t until around 3 hours later that I started to notice a feeling of hunger again. These things are heavy, more so than I expected, weighing in at over 1.5 lbs per pack. Something to keep in mind if this stays in your vehicle or get home bag, as is my intention. Finally , some reviews mention receiving bars with a short shelf life due to receiving ‘old’ bars. I received mine yesterday (11/6/19) and these bars have a manufacturing date of September 2019, good through September 2024, so they are only 2 months old.

Does its job perfectly, wouldn’t want to eat these for a week
As an emergency food, this is great. Dense, small package, high calorie to weight ratio. The daily allotment of calories is a bit low at 1230 calories, but for an emergency situation that’s fine. The flavor is good, although I can see it getting tiring after a day or two, which is at best a minor concern in an emergency situation. A good solution would be to add 3 different artificial flavoring types.I do wish the calories came less from added sugar and more from wheat, as I can’t see 90g of sugar per day being able to fuel someone trying to say, hike out of an inhospitable climate. This is more of a “stay alive until someone else rescues you” ration. All in all, if you know help isn’t coming for a few days, and you can’t get out of the area you’re in, this is a fantastic ration bar.

Taste like coconut dipped in brown sugar. You better have a sweet tooth. Doesn’t crumble too much. It’s ok for what it is, just don’t expect-it to be your main MRE backup but as an occasional addition to a MRE plan it’s a great add.
