So far, so good!
8/24: I’ll be updating this over time but thus far, I’m very happy with this purifier. I had finally redecorated my room, but with new bedding, curtains and other various textiles, off gassing became a problem. I didn’t have a problem until I opened windows on a damp cooler night…that’s when it became apparent. I also have two cats and live in a 100 yr old home. Though I like to keep a clean environment throughout (weekly cleanings), and clean litter boxes several times a day (you see cats but don’t smell them), one could easily see all the dust sparkles in the sunshine that float around. Despite changing the furnace filter monthly, dust still happens. I needed help with both dust and off gassing. Not all purifiers offer both. After doing A LOT of homework with research and reviews, I purchased this. It has helped immensely with getting rid of the smell and I’ll launder items again to hopefully put a stop to t it as I can smell off gassing once home. However, it clears up with this on. I use this in my bedroom and after 24 hours of use, I woke to see barely any sparkles in the sunshine. I literally had to search for them! I couldn’t believe it! I love the sleep option as well since I like the room dark. Also being a light sleeper, I appreciated this being whisper quiet. Set up was a breeze and it was up and running within minutes. I also ordered a pack of filters at time of purchase to have on hand. I plan on ordering a second purifier for the first floor in the near future.I’ve no opinion on durability as of yet, only had this a matter of days. A big thank you to those before me who wrote very thorough and extremely helpful reviews bringing up information I had no knowledge of with purifiers. They helped me to decide which color (model) to get.So far so good….will update as time goes on.

This actually works!!
Very impressive appliance. I purchased the Winix 5500-2, after doing a bit of research. I wanted an air purifier, but did not think I “needed” one. Boy, was I wrong. After it was delivered, I ran it for a few days and wanted to know, for sure, this thing actually worked. I purchased a little PM 2.5 meter, that not only allows me to see how much particulate matter was in the air, but also the smaller PM particulates to down to .3um/L. I was amazed at how much was floating around in the air, and what I was breathing. On average, the PM 2.5um/0.1L barely showed anything. I see anywhere from 2 to 5 ug/m3 on the meter at any given time. Smaller particulates, there were many more of. For instance, particulates in the .3um/0.1L range was constantly over 500, and the particulates in the .5um/0.1L was usually half that. I was completely blown away at how “dirty” our air was.OK, now the test. Can the Winix 5500-2 clean the air.Closed up the room, turned the Winix 5500-2 on full blast and let it do its thing. Within just minutes, I can watch (in real time) the numbers drop for the smallest (.3 micron) particulates go from over 500 down to 250, down to 100, and then bottom out at around 20 or so.For .5 microns, those will hover around 5 or so, and for 1.0 micron, it was usually only 1Nothing registered for 2.5 microns, unless I made lots of dust deliberately. So, YES!!! This actually works!!Remember to watch your carbon dioxide (Co2 numbers) in a closed up room. Air purifiers do not clean Co2Things that’s can be a negative for many folks…It’s loud on full speed. I’m OK with this myself, as it pushes out 250 CFM.It only has a “sniff” meter, and not an actual PM 2.5 meter. The color bar will only change, if it detects any VOC (volatile organic compound) in the air.Color bar can not be turned off, unless in sleep mode only. Sleep mode is the lowest fan setting, and can not be adjusted. It is whisper quiet, but air purifying is very low.Plasma-wave feature can only be turned off from the unit, not with he remote. For the price, its outstanding filtering performance, and its not bad looking, I give this unit a A+.Made in South Korea (NOT CHINA)Update**I decided to purchase another one. I will update if my opinion changes.Winix, if you plan to update this model (5500-3), things that should be considered.Make a Wi-Fi version of this unit.Keep the VOC sensor, but add a particular sensor.Plasma-wave needs to be off by default. Let the “user” decide if they want this on or off.Add the ability to install a 4th filter as an “optional feature”, not just a pet/hair filterSleep mode fan should be higher. All lights on the unit should dim in dark rooms or give the “user” the ability to turn them off (not just in sleep mode).

I just got this air purifier a few days ago so this review is not about long term use or efficacy. So far I love it. It looks and sounds cool and very modern and more importantly it works well with no smells, no fumes, etc. It’s easy to understand and move around with the handle on top. I initially set it on automatic and since the air seemed clean, the fan was staying on slow speed or going in sleep mode (very slow). Since this unit is used in a basement with concrete flooring and 2 cats around with litter, I manually set it on fan speed 3 and leave it there throughout the daytime. On rare occasions the air quality light will turn amber for a few minutes and then turn to blue again so I guess it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. Even on speed 3, I can hardly hear it. I can look and listen at the TV a few feet from the unit with no problems. The only thing I didn’t like was the very lousy manual that comes with it. The writing is ridiculously small. They mention how to clean the screen filter (first one) but not how to clean the carbon one. I went on online to find out. It’s pretty simple. I don’t care or need the remote but it’s there for those who might. I get the feeling most people will lose it anyway. The online reviews seem to agree that this is a great air purifier and so far I really like it. A review mentioned that it was made in Korea. Mine is not. It’s made in Thailand according to sticker on the box.

Works silently. Seems to have strong air delivery. Comes with extra filters. Auto turns off panel lights when it’s dark. Perfect for bedroom.

Das Gerät an sich funktioniert, es tut was es soll. Nur leider ist keine Fernbedienung inkludiert worden in der Lieferung! Schnelle Lieferung.
