Very Good for Camp food
Bought this for camping use but I like to try it before I go, and I was not disappointed! The food of course comes in a typical plastic like Mountain House bag. Sturdy enough for a few tosses in a pack but I would pack it with care. Instructions are on the back along with the best by date which in my case was about 30 years from today. Very straight forward prep. Tear on the notch and you will see there is a zip lock plastic strip just below it to reseal. Discard the plastic air absorbing packet and pour the stated water amount. Be aware that if you use the amount, in this case 1 1/2 cup of boiling water the food will be soupy and watery. I went with a cup and the meal had an almost an oatmeal quality. A bit thicker. The chicken parts were good as well as the rice. I could see peppers and some mushroom bits. Tastes like a more moist version of the fried take out rice you can get almost anywhere. Even though it says 2 portions I had no problem eating it in one sitting. It does have a fair amount of salt which is normal and at 600 calories filling. Sodium tops out at 1,520mgs. Red peppers were evident as well as onions and peas along with bits of carrots. Not spicy at all, but tasty. This is a great addition to any storm preps as well. For the allergy prone people it does contain Milk, soy, eggs and sesame. 80 grams of Carbs and cholesterol at 240mgs. Not exactly chocked full of vitamins but 606mgs of potassium. Good to know since if this is for a long term prep or survival scenario you might want to throw a few multi vitamin bottles in your stores. Over all I was very satisfied with the taste, ease of use (cooks right in the bag so all you need is a long spork or spoon). Doesn’t use a huge amount of water and is light weight for back packing or camping use. I have tried other meals from Mountain House and have yet to be disappointed taste or prep wise. (They all prep the same). Great addition on your next camping trip ( temps are warming up so I’m getting ready) or just general preparedness. I highly recommend this meal.

A Hearty Meal for the Trail
I recently took the Mountain House Chicken Fried Rice on my last camping trip, and it was an absolute hit! After a long day of hiking, I was looking forward to a warm, filling meal, and this freeze-dried option exceeded my expectations.Preparation was a breeze—just add hot water, wait a few minutes, and voilà! The rice rehydrated beautifully, and the chicken pieces were surprisingly tender. The mix of veggies added a nice crunch, and the flavors were spot on, reminiscent of a classic fried rice dish without the hassle of cooking it from scratch.Eating this around the campfire felt like a cozy home-cooked meal. It not only satisfied my hunger but also provided a comforting taste of home while being out in nature. I appreciate that it’s gluten-free, making it a great option for various dietary needs. I’ll definitely be packing this for my future adventures!

Flavor was decent
These dehydrated meals are a little pricey but at the end of the day when you’re 10 or more miles into a hike, They’re a welcome and delicious meal. I could make my own backpacking meals for 1/2 or even 1/3 the price but these are too convenient and I’ve used them for years so I know what I’m getting. Even though it says “2 servings” the calories are still a little low and most everyone I’ve ever known considers them a single meal. The fried rice isn’t up to the quality of the shop down the street but is tasty enough.

Actually tastes decent
I’ve had various emergency rations. These are actually the best tasting. I bought this as a test. Upon making it, both ease of doing so amd taste, I ordered 1 month worth. They are good for 30 years.

Doesn’t taste like fried rice
It was pretty good. It didn’t really taste like fried rice. The taste was more like seasoned rice.

So much flavor … I’m shocked
This is not something I would even normally order for myself but I was sooo surprised at the flavor! You definitely don’t have to add any seasonings. I was looking for foods like this to have on hand in case of emergency. But I figured I better taste it first before I stocked up. It is absolutely delicious! It would easily feed 2+ people.
