So far so good
I was trying to find the best all around emergency food for my 3 day bag, and so sampling these was a must on the list. So far so good. The packaging is water/air tight, and is individually wrapped on the inside. The flavor is reminicent of the crust from a no-bake cheese cake, barely even a whisp of coconut flavoring. The texture is about the same as a gram cracker crust as well, and the coconut inside is noticeable in tiny bits. Feels a bit on the greasy side, but since it’s ment to give you a long burn and satisfied feeling, that’s to be expected. I wouldn’t wanna eat these every day for a month, but I could live off of these for three days. Size is pretty compact, 4 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ x 2″. weight is 1.6 lbs. They called it “non-thirst provoking” and I’d agree, ate it 20 minutes ago, and not really any more or less thirsty then I was before I tried it.Per bar: 9 individually wrapped bars in a airtight vacum sealed bagCalories: 410fat: 18g, 7 sat, 3.5 transcholesterol: 0mgsodium: 15mgtotal carbs: 53g, dietary fiber 1g, sugars 31gprotein: 8gvit A: 6% dailyvit C: 15% dailycalcium: 2%Iron: 6%The production date was 01/13 with an exp of 12/17, recieved on 02/13, so wasn’t sent with a lot of time off of the use by date. This is apparently a big deal with emergency rations, because they are often sold with 2-3 years wasted in a ware house. So the company seems to be doing a good job all around as far as I can see. I’ll be enjoying these bars at school for lunch for the next 2 weeks, and will quickly buy 2 more packs for the bug-out bag.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Edited: 11/05/2013Have now purchased a total of 5 of these food packs. All 5 had perfectly sealed packaging, none were more then 2 months older then then manufacturing date when they arrived. Of the two packages that have been opened, one had 9 individually sealed bars with very secure seals, the other had a few bars with what seemed lightly wrapped seals. The over all freshness of both packs seemed adequate. I’ve been letting the second package age and comparing how the bars taste at one week intervals after the main seal is broken. No noticeable taste change, even unsealed, the bars are designed to last for a long time. Taste is still acceptable, maybe even good, and I’ve enjoyed bringing them as lunches for long days.

Great Taste – Great Mylar Packaging – Great Disaster Food
Here at HANS Survival we tested a few of the major emergency food ration bars and the S.O.S 3600 Calorie Food Bar had the greatest packaging. The outside mylar packaging is tightly sealed around the food and is tough. We dropped one full package from four stories onto a cement sidewalk and it withstood the fall without cracking or penetrating the mylar packaging. We also let that same package sit in salt water for seven days and six nights in direct sunlight at 80 degrees plus to resemble the ocean environment and it tasted just like new when eaten. We also tested it in the cold and snow for five days and tasted just like new. Now if you where to leave it in the environment for up to a year or so it probaly wouldn’t have that new taste to it, they are made to be stored and provided when an emergency occurs. Once you open the mylar packaging and get to the food, the food is seperated into nine indivdual bars in which each is seperatly packaged in plastic. They have a cinnamon – coconut cookie flavor to them and are very good, they are a survival food that is good what more can you ask for. The food doesn’t crumble to bad and a major plus is that it’s not thirst provoking, the food will not dry out your mouth when your eating it, but remember you still have to consume water as you can live longer without food than you can without water. Another great part about this product is that it has a five year shelf life in the ideal storage conditions. This product is great for your home survival kit or vehicle emergency kit as they are on the heavy side for a backpack. We will definatley purchase more of these in the future for our long term emergency food storage.

S.O.S. Rations Emergency 3600 Calorie Food Bar – 3 Day / 72 Hour Package
I got a package of these to try out and sample. Seemed to be a graham cracker, brown sugar, cinnamon, coconut mix with tons of butter. As a survival food I would have some around; but I do suggest you have some way to wash them down with hot coffee. No you could eat them without water or coffee; as they are intended. If I am going to survive I want to survive in style. Coffee works for me. I was surprised the size of the package when it arrived. I like the taste but nothing to rave about; survival remember. Not heat needed. I am planning on keeping three package of these around and I will start rotating fresh package once a year using up the old ones. One for my 18 hour pack, two of these packages for my three day bag. First day I had a bar for breakfast, one for lunch and later one for dinner. Worked for me. Next day for lunch I purposely ate three packages of bars, one full day rations – a little after dinner time let’s just say the toilet was active. A good simple addition to your emergency preparedness in an air tight vacuum bag and small bag with a five year shelf life. I recommend. I like the energy bars bought at the grocery but they are magnet food; you know you have them and they command you eating them.

Emergency Rations
Came in with a Manufacturing date that was only 1 month old. The product has an exceptional vacuum seal. I’m pretty sure these are coconut flavored which is fine by me, I have not tasted them yet because opening the package would destroy the shelf life. If you have ever tasted a MRE you know they aren’t really that tasty, I suspect the SOS ration to lack taste as well. They will keep you alive and functioning and give you 100% of your fat and carbohydrate needs along with some protein and vitamins thrown in. I believe these to be superior to MRE’s because of the price, size, and shelf life. Three days worth of MRE’s would cost you at least $50-$60, not $10 like these. This product weighs just over 1.5 lbs and and is pretty small a definite space saver over the MRE’s. The thing that makes these better than MRE’s on shelf life is the temp rating the SOS food rations can sit in your car trunk for 5 yrs and have the same nutritional content they did the day you put them in there. This make the SOS rations great for the vehicle emergency kit or all purpose emergency kit. This was an excellent addition to my BOB.
